As a Fellow in Training at the American College of Cardiology, your attendance at ACC.09 and i2 Summit will provide you with a wide range of educational opportunities tailored to your learning style. Not only will you learn from the best cardiovascular providers in the world, you will also have an opportunity to mingle with them, meet peers in your geographic area and specialty, and learn about the many career options you have in academic medicine and private practice. Some events that are not to be missed include:

FITs: What You Need to Know in Starting a Cardiology Career. Soon you will need to get ready for your boards and plan out your career and financial future. This is a session every FIT should attend. Here, you’ll learn how to get involved at the ACC, what you need to know to pass your boards, how to document and get paid for services you perform, how to select the professional practice that is right for you after your training is over and more.

FITs: Career Options in Pediatric Cardiology Session and Luncheon. You know you want to be a pediatric cardiologist, but how do you reach that goal? This session will focus on practical steps to launching a career in pediatric cardiology including career tracks and promotions, finding a mentor, interviewing skills, funding for clinical research, balancing career and family, and more. Future pediatric cardiologists will find this two-hour session to be one of the best time investments at ACC.09.

FIT/ACCIS: Essentials of Cardiovascular Care in Older Adults. Learn about the newest ACCIS offering for fellows which covers key points about caring for older adults with cardiovascular disease. Test your knowledge of physiology, pharmacology, aging care among other topics with audience response, hear key point lectures by geriatricians and cardiologists, and consider what caring for the aging population will mean for you in training and beyond! Specific room number for this event will be posted soon.

FIT Forum: Stimulating Options 2009. You're in training now, but soon you will have to make decisions that will dramatically affect your career and future happiness. You have options you probably don't know you have. You need to know what they are and how to evaluate these options to optimize your happiness and the happiness of your family. Clinical Investigator in an Academic Center? Clinician and an Educator in an Academic Medical Center? These options and their impact on the decisions you will soon need to make will be explained. Time for questions and answers has also been built into the session.

All-Chapter Reception. Enjoy food and beverages while you meet chapter and national leadership. Chapters will have tables set up which will provide attendees with an opportunity to discuss local advocacy issues and educational events. This is a good opportunity for FITs to meet peers that live and work in their local area.

FIT Community Lounge. Where can you go to relax, check your e-mail, and be surrounded by your FIT peers? The answer is easy, visit the FIT Community Lounge. Located in room 204A in the convention center, the FIT Community Lounge will be your base of operations when navigating ACC.09 and i2 Summit. The lounge will be open Sunday through Tuesday during the meeting, and will offer light refreshments throughout the day.
