Additional Information for Accepted Abstract Presenters at ACC.09 and i2 Summit

Notation and Publication of Accepted Abstracts

Titles and co-authors of accepted abstracts for oral and poster presentations will be listed in the onsite programs. Title and co-author listings will also be posted in the online searchable program planner system in January 2009. Full text of accepted abstracts will be published in print and/or electronic versions of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and the online program planner system associated with the start of the meeting. The person presenting an accepted abstract receives an e-mail in mid-December. The submitter is asked to reconfirm the name and contact information of the presenter or request changing the name of the presenter by contacting ACC staff. Conflict of interest information is also required at that time by visiting the College’s disclosure system at www.acc.org/disclosure.

Oral Abstract Preparation

All oral presentations will be programmed into 15-minute time slots. The Presenter’s Agreement will indicate the time of the session. The presenter will have 12 minutes for presentation and three minutes for discussion. All abstract presentations and question and answer periods will be in English. If a presenter needs assistance in understanding the questions or responding in English, he or she is encouraged to have the session co-chair or a member of his or her research group assist.

ACC is committed to providing the audience and faculty the best education environment possible. The ACC uses an all-electronic format for audiovisual requirements. All meeting rooms utilizing audiovisual equipment will be networked. Presentations are downloaded from a central server and sent to the respective meeting room on a secured site. Oral abstract presenters will be required to upload their presentation in advance; or bring their presentation in an electronic format to the onsite Speaker Ready Room, where they will have the opportunity to review or make changes using computers in the room, and then give the okay for the presentation to be uploaded to the appropriate meeting room. This will minimize distraction and critical time wasted for both the head table participants and the audience.

Poster Abstract Preparation

Traditional Flat Poster: The program committee has voted unanimously for all topic areas to return to the traditional flat poster. We believe that the personal interaction among faculty, attendees and abstract author(s) is seminal to all participants' learning experience. New this year! The program committee has invited thought leaders to visit the poster sessions in the role of “Poster Discussants” during the one-hour dedicated poster viewing times. This is designed to be ad hoc, informal interaction with discussants, presenters and attendees engaged in provocative discourse regarding the research displayed.

Poster abstract sessions are held at designated three hour intervals spanning Sunday, Monday and Tuesday of the meeting. Your traditional flat board poster must be displayed for the entire 3 hours of your designated session and must be mounted 30 minutes prior to the start of the session and dismantled within 30 minutes after the session concludes. You must also be present at your poster board during your indicated 60-minute presentation time. Each blank poster board measures 4’ high (121 cm) and 8’ feet wide (244 cm). The presenter must provide the presentation material for the poster board, including a copy of the abstract and all relevant disclosure information. Text and illustrations must be readable from distances of at least three feet. Use lightweight materials only; heavy articles are difficult to secure. Velcro fasteners and pushpins will be available on site. All presentation materials should be produced in advance and brought to ACC.09 and i2 Summit 2009. No audiovisual, projection or computer equipment requiring electrical power will be permitted in the general flat board poster session area.

All accepted traditional flat board poster presenters are requested to prepare a single “snapshot” PowerPoint summary slide for inclusion in ACC’s e-abstract system.

Opportunity for an E-Abstract Presentation: Again this year, the ACC.09 and i2 Summit Program Committee is requesting that all accepted traditional flat board poster presenters prepare either a single "snapshot" PowerPoint summary slide for inclusion in ACC's e-abstract system; or a series of slides; or you may take full advantage of the multi-media site and upload movie files, etc. E-abstracts are accessed via an electronic, self-directed e-learning system for 24/7 exposure from computer stations set up in the Poster Sessions area or any laptop or other computer with Internet access. You will receive additional information in January regarding how to upload your material to the e-abstract system. The Program Committee highly encourages all traditional poster abstract presenters to submit e-abstract slides or multi-media files for all attendees to benefit from learning about the science-especially given the 24/7 advantage. Presenters may be contacted by email with questions by interested viewers as well.

“Best Poster Awards” Competition: A select group of poster abstracts has been nominated by members of the Annual Scientific Session Program Committee to compete in a “Best Poster Awards” competition. A panel of experts in each of nine topic areas will serve as judges in grading the “Best Poster Awards” finalists. Each judge will review an assigned set of posters and award a score from 1-10 for each of the following criteria: a) Novelty of the idea; b) Clarity of data; and c) Potential clinical importance. The top winner, based on a compilation of all judges score sheets, will be recognized at the Tuesday afternoon "ACC.09 and i2 Summit Highlights Session: Conversation with the Experts" and be awarded a prize of $1,000. 2nd and 3rd place winners will be acknowledged at this session and will each receive a prize.
